Richard Madden should be a bit more careful.

While his tux game is clearly strong, pictures from the Cannes Film Festival of him in a white jacket and bow tie have got tongues wagging again.

Many reckon that he's among the actors poised to pick up the Walther PPK after Daniel Craig retires following Bond 25.

No sooner did the picture hit Instagram, via photographer Greg Williams, did his timeline begin bulging with Bond chat.

“Bond. Definitely Bond,” said one.

“Shaken not stirred,” added another.

He'll have to tussle with the other potential Bonds – none of whom have been even remotely discussed by producers Eon – including Tom Hiddleston, Cillian Murphy, James Murphy, Tom Hardy, Idris Elba, and even Olivia Colman.

Madden is in Cannes promoting his latest movie, Rocketman, the Elton John biopic starring Taron Egerton as the famed singer-songwriter.

The Bodyguard star play Elton's former manager John Reid, the first man to sleep with Elton, and who remained his manager until the 90s.

The film has hit headlines for the sex scenes between Egerton and Madden, though Egerton really doesn't see what all the fuss is about.

He told The Hollywood Reporter: “Everyone is obsessed with it. … For me, kissing a man onscreen is no less appealing than kissing a woman onscreen.

“I'm not in any way repulsed by the male form. It's an uncomfortable thing regardless of who you're with — it makes no difference as to your sexual preference.”

The movie received a four-minute standing ovation after its premiere at Cannes last night, bringing Egerton to tears.

It's out on May 22 across the UK.
