Review: Sexier EXO turns up the heat at third concert tour in Singapore
Almost a year after their successful second concert tour, South Korean-Chinese boyband EXO treated fans with a much sexier version of themselves at their third concert tour, EXO PLANET #3: The EXO’rDIUM, at the Indoor Stadium on Sunday (2 April).
Performing to an 8,000-strong crowd during their Singapore stop of their third concert tour, the eight members of EXO put up a spectacular, high-octane performance that included a dazzling display of lights, fireworks, streamers and confetti.
Inspired by the Latin word “exordium” – which means beginning – the tour theme suggests that fans can expect to see the beginning of a more mature version of the boyband.
However, the line-up in Singapore was missing Chinese member Lay whom organiser Dream Maker Entertainment said would not be performing at concerts in North America, Malaysia and Singapore due to other commitments.
Turning up the heat
The group showcased their soaring vocals and dancing prowess as they performed well-known hits such as “MAMA”, “Monster” and “Wolf” at the beginning of the show.
Xiumin, Suho, Baekhyun, Chen, Chanyeol, D.O., Kai, and Sehun elicited plenty of screams from the crowd with their hip gyrating and thrusting, and intense, provocative glares.
During one segment, the boys stood on an elevated hexagon-shaped stage (modelled after of the band’s logo), and danced sensually while water rained down on them from above.
Baekhyun had the fans, dubbed EXO-Ls, screaming when the camera panned down his body after he said, “I am wet.”
Playful moments
Suho, Baekhyun, Chen and D.O. also bantered playfully during one of their talk segments, saying that they love Singapore’s famous chilli and pepper crab dishes.
In an act of fan service, Suho elicited cheers when he told fans what he loved about Singapore – “We love the night view, but nothing can be better than you.”
At another comical moment during the show, the boys also attempted to speak English.
They then quickly disappeared from stage and re-emerged with Kai, Sehun, Xiumin and Chanyeol in elf-like costumes. They performed their more light-hearted songs, including “3.6.5” and “Love Me Right” in a marked departure from the sensual first half of the concert.
Throughout the entire concert, it was evident that they had fans hanging on their every word.
EXO closed the three-hour concert with the rest of their popular hits “Growl”, “Overdose”, and “Lucky One” and their slogan, “EXO We Are ONE! Saranghaja!”
Chanyeol ended the night with thank-you speech, saying, “As mentioned earlier, we will come back with new and better music and performances. You will wait for us, right?”
Despite losing three members in the group’s original lineup, the massively popular boyband still continues to surpass themselves in terms of stage presence, choreography and vocal performances with each concert tour.
