Oct. 28, 2020: Nordstrom is opening two new Nordstrom Local stores in Los Angeles. The 1,193-square-foot space in Newport Beach will open on Nov. 6, while the 1,886-square-foot shop in Manhattan Beach will launch in the coming months. According to COO Ken Worzel, the locations are “part of the continuation of our market strategy in one of our largest markets to provide customers with greater access to merchandise selection and faster delivery while increasing convenience and connection through our services.” The retailer already has Nordstrom Local locations in Melrose, Brentwood and downtown LA. It also has 14 full-line outposts and 30 Rack stores in the city.

Oct. 27, 2020: Ross Stores has completed its fleet expansion for the year. The department store announced the openings of 30 Ross Dress for Less locations and nine dd’s Discounts outposts across 17 states this month. In 2020, Ross has opened 66 stores — 12 of which are in its largest markets of California, Florida and Texas. “We remain committed to growing our Ross and dd’s footprints across our existing markets as well as expansion into our newer markets,” group EVP of property development Gregg McGillis said in a statement.

Oct. 23, 2020: Fivestory is moving from its location at 18 East 69th Street to 1020 Madison Avenue in New York City. The luxury women’s store, purchased last fall by former Sequential Brands exec Karen Murray, offers a wide range of multibrand names like Alison Fry, Elyse Graham and Sarah Coleman, as well as Etro, Giambattista Valli, Proenza Schouler, Staud and Valentino. The outpost also has a department dedicated to pre-owned and vintage pieces hailing from either Murray’s own collection or from a pool of her friends. Robin Kramer of the Kramer Design Group helped redesign the space, which spans 4,000 square feet over two floors.

Oct. 22, 2020: Galeries Lafayette has signed a lease for a third store in China. The outpost is scheduled to open in 2022 in the D. Place shopping mall, which is located in the Nanming neighborhood of Guiyang, the capital city of Guizhou Province. The upscale French department store currently has units in Beijing and Shanghai. According to FN’s sister publication WWD, the expansion will “allow us to offer the inhabitants of Guiyang our know-how in fashion and French lifestyle,” said Philippe Pedone, director of international development at Galeries Lafayette.

Oct. 6, 2020: Chanel is shelling out big bucks for its London retail showpiece. The Times reported that the French fashion house is paying 310 million pounds sterling (or $402 million at current exchange) to acquire its flagship on Bond Street. That is estimated to be 30% higher than the reported asking price of 240 million pounds ($311 million). Chanel occupies three floors in the building at 159 New Bond St. in London’s tony West End, where it has been renting since opening in 2011.

Here’s what happened last month:

Sept. 29, 2020: Balmain has opened up shop on 650 Madison Avenue. With the debut, the luxury fashion house returns to the famed New York thoroughfare, where founder Pierre Balmain launched his first boutique back in the ’70s. The 3,500-square-foot space is also built near the site that formerly belonged to Barneys New York, which went bankrupt last year in August and subsequently shuttered its storied location on 660 Madison Avenue. FN’s sister publication WWD reported the new store in an exclusive, which added that Balmain’s 2,150-square-foot boutique at 100 Wooster Street in the SoHo neighborhood will shutter in October.

Sept. 25, 2020: Designer Mike Amiri is expanding his retail footprint with the opening of his first flagship store on Rodeo Drive. The Los Angeles-based label, Amiri, is known for its rockabilly-meets-urban-streetwear aesthetic and has garnered major attention from retailers and fashion fans since launching in 2014. The store will house the entire range of Amiri products including menswear, womenswear, footwear and accessories. In addition, the flagship will stock exclusives, including a special collaboration with the City of Beverly Hills. Officially opening on Sept. 26, the outpost is located at 461 N. Rodeo Dr. Beverly Hills, Calif.
