Renowned Chinese designer Guo Pei opens Singapore Fashion Week

On Wednesday night (26 October), Chinese haute couturier, Guo Pei, opened Singapore Fashion Week with her spring/summer 2016 “Courtyard” collection at the National Gallery Singapore.

The 49-year-old is best known to pop culture fans as the woman behind Rihanna’s show-stopping yellow cape dress from the Met Gala 2015, which was also brought to Singapore.

With almost 30 years of experience in creating fashion pieces, the Beijing-based designer has dressed many Chinese celebrities, created many film costumes and even designed an outfit for singer Song Zuying during the 2008 Olympics. Listed by Time Magazins as one of the world’s 100 most influential people, she is widely recognised as China’s biggest fashion designer.

Her style is largely inspired by traditional Chinese costumes and motifs, but always combined with modern cuts and glamourous appeal.

Singapore’s biggest fashion event happens over five days, from 26 to 30 October. This year’s event focuses more on celebrating and honouring internationally acclaimed Asian designers, as well as providing Singaporean designers a platform to present their collections.
