Remember “Myst?” There’s a brand new ~spiritual~ sequel to it now

Hello, let’s take a trip back to 1993 before we could hold computers in our hands and the internet was merely still a fleeting dream. Actual games on the computer were just starting to take off, and there’s one that probably stands out in your mind more than the others: Myst.

MYST! It was so frustrating, and also so addicting, and little-you might have actually been terrified of it at points (I was!!). But you played it anyway, because you had to solve all the puzzles. Back in the early ’90s, it was like THE GAME, and it paved the way for many more first-person games to come — even if you could never exactly figure out how to solve it.

Well, 23 years later, you are stronger, wiser, and maybe a little bit smarter when it comes to solving game puzzles. If you want to try your hand at Myst again, you most certainly can, OR, you can boot up the ~spiritual sequel~ to the OG game, which was just released today.

Cyan, the company behind Myst, has just dropped Obduction, their latest first-person adventure game. Instead of trying to free two brothers from two books (Myst was crazy, yo), you now find yourself on a planet in the middle-of-no-where, and also it appears as if the sky is falling, and you’ve gotta figure out how, and why, and how to get yourself back home — and also why the planet is completely deserted.

The game’s description reads: “Everyday life is gone. An organic artifact that fell from the sky inexplicably transports you across the universe. You’re in a place called Hunrath, with pieces of earth scattered within an alien landscape. Nobody’s here – well… almost nobody. Explore, uncover, solve, decide. This is your story now.”

It also looks and feels just like Myst, so prepare for some major ’93 vibes. Except no CD-Rom this time.
