Release dates for three new "Star Wars" movies revealed

The release dates for three new "Star Wars" movies have been revealed by Walt Disney Pictures.

8 May – This is the good news that "Star Wars" fans have been waiting for, Walt Disney Pictures have finally revealed the release dates for three new movies.

There'll be quite some wait for the upcoming movies, as stated on ComingSoon.net, as they will be released a few years after this December's "Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker".

The new movies' release dates are 16 December 2022, 20 December 2024 and 18 December 2026.

At the moment, it is not known whether the movies are the trilogy that "Game of Thrones" creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss are developing, or it could be the first movie in that trilogy, the first movie in Rian Johnson's new trilogy and a yet-to-be-revealed movie.

The "Star Wars" release dates aren't the only update from Disney, With the Disney-Fox merger that happened earlier this year, fans have been bracing themselves for changes to come especially in terms of movie directions and releases. So the calendar update recently unveiled by Disney could be taken positively by some fans and negatively by others.

We get the long face, fans are unhappy too with the delays.

One of the major changes is the release of the upcoming four "Avatar" sequels, which have all been pushed back either a year or two.

"Avatar 2" will now open on 17 December 2021 (originally 18 December 2020), delaying the release of "Avatar 3" to 22 December 2023 (originally 17 December 2021), "Avatar 4" to 19 December 2025 (originally 20 December 2024), and "Avatar 5" to 17 December 2027 (originally 19 December 2025).

As for Channing Tatum fans who've been hoping to see him star as "Gambit", which he had also planed to direct, that dream is no more. Disney has pulled the movie from its schedule, along with three untitled Fox Marvel projects that were slated to open within the next two years.

Yes, the constant "The New Mutants" release date changes are maddening.

"The New Mutants", meanwhile, has been delayed yet again. After announced last year that it was going to open this 2 August (after moving from 13 April 2018 to 22 February 2019 before landing on the August 2019 date), it has now been moved to 3 April 2020.

There are also no "Deadpool" follow-up movies penciled in. This could be because Disney is planning to integrate the previously Fox-owned superhero franchises like "X-Men" and "Fantastic Four" into its Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

There are nine other movies that have been delayed, including Brad Pitt-starrer "Ad Astra", Steven Spielberg's "West Side Story" and James Mangold's "Ford v Ferrari".
