Regine Velasquez defends giving song to Morissette Amon

21 Feb – Songbird Regine Velasquez recently defended fellow singer Morissette Amon against the backlash from netizens over her performing Velasquez's hit song, "Pangarap Ko ang Ibigin Ka".

As reported on Rappler, the singer, who recently performed the song alongside Morissette on the previous episode of "ASAP", took to social media to express her frustration over some people tweeting comments that Morrissette will never be as good as her.

In a series of tweets she posted on 19 February - some which had since been deleted - Velasquez expressed, "Guys, what's wrong with me giving the song to her? That song will always be mine but the truth is I won't be able to record it and I can't do anything about that. How come you seem to know better than me?"

She stressed that she was the one who wanted the singer to record the song so that the new generation will know it, thus enabling the song to continue to live on.

"She will definitely own it, because that's what we do. When I sing other people's songs, I don't get that type of reaction," she added.

Velasquez also stated that she likes Morissette and believes in the singer's talent, adding that the song belongs to her husband Ogie Alcasid anyway.

"Besides, my body of work is MY BODY OF WORK. I don't need you protect that [because] that's finished already. You're making me angry. I really don't like being embarassed over what another person does," she added.
