Red Lobster Employees Found An Extremely Rare Blue Lobster In Their Tank And Now She Lives At The Zoo
Unlike most experiences in this world, when you go to Red Lobster, you tend to know what to expect. The decor will be nautical, the cheddar bay biscuits will be flowing, and the lobster will be, well, red. But a Red Lobster in Ohio recently was treated to a surprise when they discovered an actual BLUE lobster in their tank.
Employees at the Cuyahoga Falls, OH, Red Lobster were unloading a batch of live lobsters into the tank when they noticed a lobster that looked most peculiar. Culinary manager Anthony Stein told NPR that his coworkers texted him a photo of it and they were pretty much all stunned because it was a bright blue color.
That's because this lobster is SUPER rare, like one-in-2 million lobsters rare. Seeming to know they had something special on their hands, they kept the blue lobster in the tank and made sure no one ordered it for dinner (!!!). Both the Akron Zoo and Red Lobster are part of a sustainable seafood program called Seafood Watch, according to the zoo's blog post, so they were able to connect pretty easily. When the Akron Zoo was alerted to this find, they got to work right away. Zoo workers filled up a huge cooler with salt water and took the lobster, named Clawde, to its new home at the Akron Zoo.
In the post, the Akron Zoo said that the lobster is now chilling in its enclosure, lovingly referred to as “Clawde’s Man Cave” by its caretakers...but there is one more twist to this story. A follow-up post from the Akron Zoo's Facebook page confirmed that Clawde is actually a LADY. She's now been renamed to Clawdia, and "the proclaimed 'man cave' is now a 'she-shed!'"
She is currently hanging at the Akron Zoo's Komodo Kingdom building, but it's closed to guests during COVID-19. Once things open up a bit more, well, Clawdia, I'm coming for a visit, girl!!
