The Queen and Prince Philip set for a big move ahead of Buckingham Palace works

The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh, have called Buckingham Palace home since King George VI’s death in 1952.
However, it seems the couple will be waving goodbye to the royal residence in a few years time – but it’s only temporary.
Her Majesty and Prince Philip are set to vacate Buckingham Palace in 2025 – at which point the monarch will be 99-years-old and Philip will be 104 – for vital renovation work to take place.
The Queen’s main residence is undergoing a ten-year refurbishment, which started last year and is set to finish in 2027.
The work is said to be vital for the upkeep of the palace, to safeguard the building from any potential fire or flood damage – old pipes, cables, wiring and boilers are set to be replaced throughout the residence.
Of course all this work doesn’t come without a hefty price tag, £369 million to be precise.
When the mass refurbishment was announced in 2016, the master of the Queen’s household, Tony Johnstone-Burt, said the work was vital for avoiding “catastrophic building failure”.
“We take the responsibility that comes with receiving these public funds extremely seriously indeed,” Johnstone-Burt said in a statement.
“Equally, we are convinced that by making this investment in Buckingham Palace now we can avert a much more costly and potentially catastrophic building failure in the years to come.”
