Prolific Arsenal goal scorer set to be victim of ruthless Arteta cull; Gunners reveal price tag amid interest
Arsenal have reportedly set their asking price for on-loan striker Folarin Balogun, as Mikel Arteta prepares to offload him this summer.
The 21-year-old has been in prolific goal-scoring form for Reims this season. However, it seems the Gunners have decided to sell him.
There is no shortage of interest in Balogun, though, so there could potentially be a bidding war for his services at the end of the campaign.
Balogun has notched 19 goals in 34 Ligue 1 appearances so far this term. This leaves him fifth in the division’s scoring charts, behind Kylian Mbappe, Alexandre Lacazette, Jonathan David and Habib Diallo.
The centre-forward will return to the Emirates at the end of the season when a decision will be made over his future. However, at the moment, everything points towards him leaving.
Indeed, Balogun has made it clear that he won’t play second-fiddle to Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah and has refused to go out on another loan, or sign a contract extension.
As a result, several top clubs have registered an interest in his signature. These reportedly include AC Milan, Juventus, Bayern Munich, Monaco, RB Leipzig and Marseille.
Mass Arsenal clearout predicted
Now, according to the Daily Mail, Arsenal will demand at least £30m for Balogun this summer. However, given the level of interest in him, the striker may end up being sold for more than that amount.
Interestingly, he could be one of several departures from Arsenal, as Arteta looks to make room for new signings.
For instance, Granit Xhaka is being heavily linked with a return to former club Bayer Leverkusen.
The Switzerland international has played a key role in the Gunners’ success. But, with Declan Rice tipped to join Arsenal, it looks like Xhaka is on his way out.
Kieran Tierney, Emile Smith Rowe, Rob Holding and as many as 11 others are also tipped to be axed this summer. So, Balogun certainly won’t be the only player heading out the exit door.
Recently, the striker swapped his international allegiance from England to the United States.
Now, it looks as though he could be set to change is club, too. The only question is who will be willing to meet Arsenal’s £30m price tag.
