Netflix has begun production on a Korean crime drama based on real-life events starring A-listers Ha Jung-woo and Hwang Jung-min.

The working title of the series is Suriname. The director is Yoon Jong-bin (The Spy Gone North, Kundo: Age Of The Rampant), working from a script by Kwon Sung-hui and Yoon Jong-bin.

The story is about an ordinary entrepreneur who has no choice but to risk his life in joining a secret government mission to capture a Korean drug lord operating in the South American country of Suriname.

Ha Jung-woo will play Kang In-gu, who sets off to Suriname to make big bucks but ends up knee-deep in drug crimes instead.

Hwang Jung-min plays Jeon Yo-hwan, a powerful drug lord who has Suriname under his thumb.

Both stars had previously worked with director Yoon.

Ha starred in Yoon's films The Unforgiven, The Moonlight Of Seoul, and Kundo: Age Of The Rampant. Hwang worked with Yoon in The Spy Gone North.

Suriname's cast also includes Park Hae-soo, Jo Woo-jin, and Yoo Yeon-seok.

Park Hae-soo (By Quantum Physics: A Nightlife Venture, Time To Hunt) plays Agent Choi, the National Intelligence Service agent who oversees operations in the Americas and enlists the help of Kang In-gu to capture Jeon Yo-hwan.

Jo Woo-jin ( Mr Sunshine, The Battle: Roar To Victory) plays Byun Ki-tae, an ethnic Korean from China and Jeon Yo-hwan’s right-hand man who carries out all his dirty work.

Yoo Yeon-seok (Hospital Playlist, Steel Rain 2: Summit) will transform himself into David Park, the lawyer and the brains behind Jeon Yo-hwan’s organization.

Netflix provided a photo of the director and cast at a table read for the show, but has not provided a release date for Suriname, which is being produced by Moonlight Film and Perfect Storm Film.
