8 Sep – Film producer Marichu Vera-Perez has recently passed away.
The news, as reported on ABS-CBN, was confirmed by Vera-Perez's sisters Gina de Venecia and Lilibeth Vera-Perez, who revealed that the film producer died due to kidney complications and heart disease.
The daughter of Sampaguita Pictures' head Jose Vera-Perez, Marichu - known by the moniker Manay Ichu - was considered an icon in the industry who worked in many areas of filmmaking, including producing movies such as "Batch 81".
In addition to her behind-the-scenes work, she also helped organise the Movie Workers Welfare Foundation (MOWELFUND), Metro Manila Film Festival, the Film Academy of the Philippines (FAP), the Philippine Motion Picture Producers Association (PMPPA), and the Experimental Cinema of the Philippines (ECP), among others.
She was 77.
