Long-forgotten trends that claw their way back into the mainstream are all part of the ever-rotating nature of fashion.

But this summer, we’re really surprised to see one 90s fashion favourite making such a splash.

Enter: cycling shorts.

Yes, the cropped Lycra creations have been spotted on our favourite celebs this summer, meaning its a certified trend to get on the radar.

The super tight shorts are a Kardashian favourite, and have been worn by the likes of Kim, Kendall and Kourtney with fervour.

But they’re not alone: Rita Ora, Bella Hadid, Emily Ratajkowski have all been spotted donning cycling shorts, too.

You’d be forgiven for wanting to recoil at the idea of wearing them: they’re not exactly most flattering style and they’re unforgiving when it comes to post-lunch bloat.

But they do have some redeeming qualities in that they’re super comfy and flexible (they are designed for professional cyclists’ comfort, after all.)

Princess Diana was one of the first purveyors of cycling shorts back in the 90s, only proving the style icon’s enduring influence.

But cycling shorts aren’t the only unlikely trend we’ve seen return this summer: slim, Matrix-style shades are everywhere right now, popularised by the likes of Gigi and Bella Hadid.

Add to that fashion’s current obsession with clunky, ‘dad trainers’, which were first brought to our attention on the Balenciaga catwalk.

Characterised by their chunky soles and bulging design, iterations of the style have been wheeled out on the high street ever since.

Fact: the 90s style renaissance has hit 2018 hard.
