Princess Beatrice of York mixes in famous circles: the royal is friends with everyone from Ellie Goulding to Ed Sheeran, James Blunt and Mila and Ashton Kutcher.

Well you can add another to the 29-year-old’s ever-expanding list of A-list connections, as it’s been revealed the royal is close friends with supermodel Karlie Kloss.

Kloss, who announced her engagement to entrepreneur Joshua Kushner this week, called up her royal friend on FaceTime to share the news.

Sharing a screenshot of the royal’s reaction on Instagram, Beatrice appeared stunned at the model’s happy news.

Kloss, 25, also revealed Beatrice’s secret Instagram, which uses the handle ‘@beayork’.

Beatrice – who is eighth in line to the throne – is not the only young royal with famous connections.

Between the four of them, William, Kate, Harry and Meghan have racked up a pretty enviable list of famous connections, from sports stars to politicians, models, actors and musicians.

David Beckham, Eddie Redmayne, Tom Hardy, Margot Robbie, Cara Delevingne, Serena Williams and Priyanka Chopra are just some of the royals’ high-profile friends.

Royal expert Liz Brewer thinks that by aligning themselves with people with a huge platform, “the young royals are bringing the royal family into the 21st century.”

“There are so many causes which without the royals wouldn’t get off the ground,” Brewer tells Yahoo UK during episode four of ‘The Royal Box’.

“It’s the best way you can use the young royals.”

But, arguably, there are downsides, too: the monarchy could be perceived as losing its royal sheen and becoming glorified celebrities themselves.

However, if that keeps the monarchy relevant, does that matter?

“Britain are apathetic about the royal family at best,” royal expert Victoria Howard says. “But when you bring in celebs, people are more interested in them.”
