Prince William Visits Homelessness Organizations as Lockdown Eases

• On Thursday, Prince William visited the "Safer off the Streets" partnership to find out how rough sleepers have been supported during the coronavirus pandemic.

• The Duke of Cambridge also spoke to people who have been helped by the Light Project Peterborough, a charity that provides shelter and support for the homeless.

Earlier this week, Prince William met with organizations that have been supporting the homeless in the United Kingdom during the coronavirus pandemic, and to find out what steps are being taken to keep people off of the streets as lockdown eases.

Sharing an Instagram post about the prince's visit, the Kensington Palace account revealed, "The Duke of Cambridge visited a drop-in support facility for rough sleepers in Peterborough to see first-hand how a partnership of voluntary, faith, community and public service organisations have worked together during the pandemic to support those experiencing homelessness."

The post continued, "The Duke heard from members of Peterborough’s 'Safer off the Streets' partnership—including representatives from housing associations—about this unique moment to help so many people move from temporary accommodation into longer term housing."

"During the visit, he also spoke to past and present clients of Light Project Peterborough—a local charity who provide shelter and support for the homeless—about their experience of COVID-19, and what their hopes for the future are," the post explained.

A press release from Kensington Palace confirmed the Duke of Cambridge's commitment to help end homelessness. The release explained, "The swift and extensive activation of temporary accommodation across the country at the beginning of lockdown has kept vulnerable people safe, and enabled state and charity organisations to provide support services quickly and consistently. Throughout lockdown, The Duke has kept in contact with organisations working in the sector, such as The Passage and Centrepoint, to hear from clients about their experiences of isolation, and to thank the charities’ frontline staff for their dedicated service."
