The Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s next engagement is set to be a significant one, as it’s their first official visit to their namesake county.

Kensington Palace have announced Harry and Meghan will be heading to Chichester, Bognor Regis, Brighton and Peacehaven on their trip to Sussex on Wednesday 3 October.

They will visit the University of Chichester, the Royal Pavilion and be shown the rare Sussex copy of the American Declaration of Independence.

The official engagement comes just five months after their wedding day on May 19, 2018.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge‘s trip to their namesake city came a year and a half after their nuptials on April 29, 2011.

William and Kate embarked on two royal tours to Canada (June 2011) and the Far East (September 2012) before they finally got to visit Cambridgeshire on November 28, 2012.

The pair greeted the huge crowds which had gathered to meet them, and they were given a tour of the city, which included the local Guildhall and the University of Cambridge.

William gave a speech, in which he said: “This is a day Catherine and I have looked forward to for a very long time, 18 months, in fact, ever since my grandmother, The Queen, on the morning of our wedding bestowed on us the name of this great city.”

He even poked fun at his brother Harry.

He said: “It’s not the first time I’ve been here. My brother Harry and I were fortunate enough to come to Cambridge five years ago, when we spent a couple of days at Trinity.

“I have to say it’s the closest Harry’s ever got to university.”

As with any public appearances, Kate’s choice of outfit (a light pink/beige Max Mara Studio coat with a printed brown dress) and her new fringe were one of the talking points.

There were also rumours at the time, that the couple were expecting their first baby. Just a week later, they announced the pregnancy after Kate was admitted to hospital with hyperemesis gravidarum (severe morning sickness). Their eldest child Prince George was born on July 22, 2013.

The Duchess is set to return from maternity leave next week, after giving birth to her third child Prince Louis on April 23.

She will visit the Sayers Croft Forest School and Wildlife Garden at Paddington Recreation Ground on Tuesday 2 October.
