Members of the Royal Family shared their birthday wishes for the Duke of Edinburgh on their social media platforms on Monday to mark his 98th birthday.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge shared four photos of Prince Philip, including one with the Queen, one of William laughing with his grandfather, another of Kate enjoying a fun moment with the duke and finally a family photo on the balcony at Buckingham Palace.

They captioned their post: “Wishing a very Happy 98th Birthday to His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh!”

The Prince of Wales shared a personal photo with his father, taken in Malta in 1951, when he was just two-years old, on Clarence House’s Instagram page.

Princess Eugenie posted some sweet throwback photos with her grandfather - one on Christmas Day with his hand on his granddaughter’s head and two at Trooping the Colour.

She captioned it: “Happy Birthday to HRH The Duke of Edinburgh. I found a couple of classic photographs of Grandpa and I on Christmas Day and Trooping the Colour a few years ago now...”

The Royal Family were out in force on Saturday to attend the annual Trooping the Colour parade, to mark the Queen’s official birthday.

The Duke of Edinburgh was not present on the famous balcony at Buckingham Palace, as he retired from public duties aged 96 in 2017, having completed 22,219 solo engagements since 1952.

The Duchess of Sussex made her first public appearance since giving birth to baby Archie last month and Prince Louis also made his Trooping the Colour debut.

It’s understood that Prince Philip will be celebrating his special day in private with family.

He was born on June 10, 1921 in Greece, to parents Prince Andrew of Greece and Denmark and Princess Alice of Battenberg.

After being educated in France, Germany and the United Kingdom, he joined the British Royal Navy in 1939, aged 18.

He left active military service in 1952 when Elizabeth ascended the throne and was by her side, supporting her with her royal duties until his retirement.

They also have eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
