Prince Harry Tried to Meet With the Queen, Was Blocked by Courtiers

From Cosmopolitan

  • Prince Harry reportedly attempted to meet with the queen about stepping down from senior royal duties but was blocked by her courtiers.

  • The royals are currently in “talks” about the duke and duchess’s future role.

Welp, the plot just keeps on thickening over in Buckingham Palace. Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s decision to step down as senior royals has caused a huge amount of drama thanks to reports that the couple didn’t inform members of the royal family and Prince Charles learned about their bombshell news only 10 minutes before it went public. But turns out, there’s more to the story than meets the eye. According to the Evening Standard, the sequence of events leading up to Meghan and Harry’s announcement actually involved Harry trying to meet with the queen and being shot down by her courtiers.

According to the outlet, Harry “originally contacted Prince Charles about spending more time in Canada and America just before Christmas.” At this time, he was told to come up with a well thought out plan, which he did! The proposal was reportedly sent to Charles in the New Year, but Harry was told that more time was needed to discuss everything.

At this point, Harry reportedly asked for a “summit with the queen at Sandringham” and was told that his grandmother would happily meet with him but wouldn’t discuss plans until he’d spoken to Prince Charles. Fair enough. But THEN, the meeting was reportedly blocked by palace courtiers (!!!!) and the queen told Harry not to go public. He clearly didn’t listen, and now senior courtiers are saying that “Harry and Meghan will be punished for this.”

W...TF?!

Meanwhile, royal reporter Rebecca English says, “The queen has convened a meeting of all four royal households and ‘tasked’ them with coming up with a ‘workable’ future role for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex within ‘days, not weeks.’”

Guess we’ll see what happens!
