Prince Harry Opens Up About Wedding Day Drama with Prince Charles and Thomas Markle
Remember that time you set your alarm for the ungodly hour of 4:00 a.m. just to watch Prince Charles walk Meghan Markle down the aisle to marry Prince Harry? Good, sleepless times!
But in case you'd forgotten due to a brief case of royal wedding amnesia, Charles wasn't originally meant to accompany Meghan down the aisle on her big day-that honor was supposed to go to Thomas "TMZ Is My BFF" Markle, who bowed out at the last minute thanks to a health emergency that plenty of people speculated wasn't real. And now Prince Harry's finally opening up about having to ask his own father to step in.
Harry was interviewed for BBC's new documentary Prince, Son and Heir: Charles at 70, and said "I asked him to and I think he knew it was coming and he immediately said, 'Yes, of course, I’ll do whatever Meghan needs and I’m here to support you.' For him that’s a fantastic opportunity to step up and be that support, and you know he’s our father so of course he’s gonna be there for us."
Harry was seen saying "thank you, Pa" to his dad during the wedding, and explained why he took a moment to express gratitude: "You’ve gotta say thank you," he said. "Just because he’s my father that doesn’t mean I can just sort of go, 'Okay, that’s all, I’ll take it from here.' Err, no, that is what I wanted to say but erm…and I was very grateful for him to be able to do that."
Update: my heart is a puddle.
