Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Talk About Being Stripped of Their Royal Patronages
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have revealed exactly how they feel about the Queen stripping them of their royal patronages. Speaking to Oprah during their tell-all, the couple expressed that the timeline of it all wasn't what it seemed—and the decision was made before their interview was announced, not in reaction to it.
Meghan clarified that the call to take the patronages and honorary military appointments happened before the interview with Oprah was announced, so all the rumors about the patronages being retaliation are false.
In case you missed this whole saga, the palace issued a statement about Meghan and Harry's patronages on February 19, saying in part, "Following conversations with The Duke, The Queen has written confirming that in stepping away from the work of The Royal Family it is not possible to continue with the responsibilities and duties that come with a life of public service."

Meghan and Harry appeared to take issue with the "public service" line and issued their own statement in response, saying, "We can all live a life of service. Service is universal."

Apparently Prince William was less than thrilled by his brother pushing back, with a source telling The Sunday Times William is "very upset by what has happened" and found the Sussexes' statement "insulting and disrespectful." Another source mused, "You don't answer the Queen back—it's just not done."
