Prince Harry could have helped Thomas Markle, says Diana's former bodyguard

Barely a week goes by without a new controversial interview from Meghan Markle’s father, Thomas Markle, hitting the papers.

Just this week, the 73-year-old told the Mail on Sunday that he hung up on Prince Harry during a phone call just days before the royal wedding.

The royal family has come under attack for not supporting Mr. Markle during this period of upheaval – and Princess Diana‘s former bodyguard, Ken Wharfe, agrees.

“I think the palace were at fault not to earmark this problem very early on,” he tells Yahoo UK during episode six of ‘The Royal Box’. “I think his behaviour and actions are as a result of poor advice, or no advice.”

Wharfe, a Scotland Yard Protection Officer, guarded the princess and her sons from 1986 to the end of 1993.

“Harry could have been more insistent perhaps,” Wharfe says. “He’s not an unintelligent guy, he’s been through the mill himself, he knows what press intrusion is like.”

“[Harry] has a draw bridge and an portcullis to hide behind when they pursue him,” Wharfe continues. “No one’s looking after [Thomas Markle].”

“Harry could have done something about that. He could have insisted upon that.”

It is believed that Prince Harry and Thomas Markle have never met in person.
