Prada drops Zheng Shuang amid scandal

20 Jan – Amid allegations that she has abandoned her two children with ex-partner Zhang Heng in the United States, it was revealed that Chinese actress Zheng Shuang has been dropped by fashion giant, Prada.

As reported on WWD, the news was confirmed by the Italian luxury fashion house itself, stating, "Following significant recent media coverage of her personal life, Prada Group has today decided to cancel its collaboration with the actress Zheng Shuang, which was announced January 11, 2021."

The announcement marked Zheng as the most short-lived brand ambassador, having been the face of Prada only nine days before being fired.

Prada's decision sparked speculations that the brand is trying to avoid facing boycott in China for maintaining collaboration with the actress, seeing that the concept of family is very important in the country.

Earlier this week, Zheng was embroiled in the child abandonment scandal after ex-boyfriend Zhang Heng posted a photo of him with two children, saying that he has been stranded in the United States taking care of "two young and innocent lives". Netizens began to dig into the issue, while a friend of Zhang alleged that he could not return legally to China due to Zheng not cooperating on many legal procedures and requirements.

The two children are alleged to be born via surrogacy, which is illegal in China.
