The third edition of the Michelin Singapore guide of the best food establishments was unveiled at an award ceremony on Wednesday (25 July), and it turned out that no new hawker had received the coveted star for the second consecutive year.

Hill Street Tai Hwa Pork Noodle and Liao Fan Hong Kong Soya Sauce Chicken Rice and Noodle, both of which have one Michelin star, remain the only two hawker stalls in Singapore to make it to the list dominated by fine dining establishments.

The humble street food stalls caused a stir in 2016 after they became the first hawkers in the world to receive Michelin stars.

While Michael Ellis, chief inspector of the Michelin guides, praised the quality of Singapore’s hawker food at the ceremony held at Resorts World Sentosa, he said Michelin has yet to find other hawkers that could meet its criteria for a star rating.
