Police report lodged against "Beauty and the Beast"

24 Mar – The rose is still wilting for "Beauty and the Beast" in Malaysia - turns out the whole gay debacle hasn't officially ended.
Now the police are being roped into the issue with the recent report lodged against the movie by several non-governmental organisations (NGOs), who have banded together in an effort to stop the movie's release in Malaysia next week.
The police report was made by president of the Pertubuhan Martabat Jalinan Muhibbah (MJMM), Abdul Rani Kulup Abdullah; chairman of the Dewan Ekonomi dan Sosial Malaysia (DESMMA), Mohd Fazil Abdullah; and chairman of the Ikatan Rakyat Insan Muslim Malaysia (IRIMM), Amir Amsaa Alla Pitchay., according to BERNAMA.
The three NGOs, who lodged the report at the Dang Wangi District Police Headquarters after the movie recently received the greenlight to screen without any cuts, stated that the movie "goes against the religious and cultural values of Malaysia."
"Beauty and the Beast" is currently scheduled for release in Malaysia on 30 March 2017.
It was delayed from its original 16 March release date when the Malaysian Censorship Board (LPF) demanded for cuts to be made to the movie, due to its "gay moments" involving the character LeFou, played by Josh Gad.
It was only confirmed for screening and given a new release date after Disney Malaysia successfully appealed to overturn LPF's decision regarding the cuts.
But with this recent police report, it remains to be seen whether "Beauty and the Beast" will truly have a happily ever after in Malaysian cinemas.
