Police to investigate Azwan Ali over viral video

22 Jan – Azwan Ali has recently been called to report himself to the police, after a clip of him supposedly trivialising the proclamation of Emergency made by the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong went viral.

Federal CID director Comm Datuk Huzir Mohamed revealed that the police received reports regarding the said clip from the public, and will begin investigating the issue in accordance to Section 504 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act.

"Today, Azwan Ali has been called to the Special Investigations Unit to assist in the investigation and we will continue to investigate the owner of the Facebook account that had made the clip viral," he said

Datuk Huzir Mohamed also urged the public to be courteous and smart on social media instead of using it to threaten social harmony.

"We will take a stern action against any individual who intentionally threatens security and public order," he added.

This is not the first time that the TV personality was in trouble over his opinions. Last year, he was fined RM17,000 by a Sessions Court for uploading a video on YouTube criticising Putrajaya Hospital over the handling of the COVID-19 outbreak. He had since apologised for the said video.
