What steps can I take if my child goes missing:
Lodge a Missing Persons report as soon as you realize your child is missing. Photo: iStock
Don’t hesitate to take immediate action. Contrary to what is being portrayed in the movies, you DO NOT have to wait for 12, or 24, hours to report a missing person.
You can lodge a Missing Person’s report at any police service counter, as soon as you realize your child has lost contact with his/her family.
Make sure you have the following personal details ready to help the Police in their search for your child:
- Date of Birth
- Distinguishing birthmarks or features that can help the police identify the child quickly (e.g. unique features such as through moles, spectacles, braces etc)
- A clear, recent photo of the child
- When you first noticed your child was missing
- The clothing he/she was wearing
You may also directly call the police hotline at 1800-255-0000, or do an online submission via the Police portal, here.
Additionally, you may also approach the Facebook page Singapore Missing People. that functions as a portal to facilitate looking out for missing persons, through their wide network of members who can act as watchful eyes and help bring your child back home safely.
