Make sure you’re well-stocked with candles and blankets, folks, because a polar vortex is expected to bring some of the coldest temperatures of the season next week, AccuWeather reports. The Arctic blast also has the potential to initiate a storm with snow or rain in certain regions.

"An Arctic cold front is expected to move through the northern Rockies and northern Plains on January 18 and 19 then the eastern and south-central parts of the U.S. between January 20 and 21," AccuWeather senior meteorologist Dave Samuhel reports.

Since temperatures have been above average this year, the cold front may pack more of a punch. The temperatures may hit anywhere between 15 and 30 degrees below normal in the Plains, Midwest, and Northeast. In some parts of the northern-central states, temperatures could barely get above zero. This will be similar in the northern part of the Northeast, where temperatures may not get higher than single digits.

A storm watch is in motion as well, particularly for the upper Gulf Coast between January 18 and January 20, Inauguration Day. "Several pieces will need to fall into place for this storm to materialize, but there is the potential for a high-impact storm with power outages and virtual schooling, as well as business and travel disruptions for this period with heavy snow and blizzard conditions in the northern states, heavy rain and strong thunderstorms along the Gulf Coast and Southeast with some ice in the middle," Samuhel reports.

The Arctic blast won’t be record-setting, according to the weather source, but it will definitely bring some unpleasing weather. Sounds like the perfect opportunity to bundle up and enjoy a movie marathon, IMO.
