Please Be Advised: The Fancy School From ‘Get Even’ Is a Real Place With Real Castle Vibes
Get Even is currently streaming on Netflix, which is great news for people who are extremely into murder mysteries involving private school girls hell-bent on getting revenge on all the toxic assholes they go to class with. Aka great news for me and all my fellow Pretty Little Liars fans!!!
But in the event that you turned on Get Even, took one look at Bannerman Independent School, and were like, Wait, sorry, why didn’t I go to school in a castle? there’s some good news. Bannerman’s campus fully exists in real life—meaning you can visit those turrets right now.*
*Er, when the pandemic is over.
Turns out Bannerman is actually the Bolton School in North West England, and it’s just as fancy as it looks onscreen. I mean, the Hogwarts vibes are incredibly real:

Apparently, Bolton is one of the oldest schools in Lancashire; the boys’ school dates all the way back to 1516, while the girls’ school dates to 1877. Bolton has also been featured in a ton of productions, and a representative recently said that it’s often compared to Hogwarts, so it’s not just me projecting my Harry Potter dreams, okay?
“The word about Bolton School being a great location for filming seems to have filtered out to various film companies and their location managers. This week, we have just filmed some scenes for a new Netflix series called The Stranger with Richard Armitage and for a forthcoming Channel 4/Netflix comedy. We are also involved in some exciting negotiations over hiring out the premises this summer. We are lucky to have such spectacular buildings and visitors often say how it feels like they are on the set of Hogwarts. In fact, thinking about it, the school was even transformed into Hogwarts for an episode of Don’t Tell the Bride! All the money that we make—along with revenues from hiring out our premises and services for weddings—is plowed back into the School’s bursary fund, which enables many pupils to study for free here.”
