We’ve had our first glimpse of the cast of Fantastic Beasts 2, aka The Crimes of Grindelwald a while ago, but now Entertainment Weekly’s released two new images from the set of the movie and…well, it’s a little underwhelming to be honest.

But it doesn’t make us any less excited for the sequel to the first movie (see our review).

The first picture shows Eddie Redmayne as Newt Scamander posing in what looks like a dark, dank sewer. Ew, this is giving me serious Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets callbacks, but who knows what Scamander is really running after (or from?) in this shot.

The second is from behind the scenes of the production, which is currently filming. Here, Redmayne is shown talking to Jude Law, who will play the young Albus Dumbledore. Law looks like he’s dressed as a muggle here, but it’s also likely that they’ve draped any wizarding robes or coats somewhere out of sight.

There really isn’t anything new revealed here. The two actors look like they’re about to go to the newest hipster joint in Brooklyn or Shoreditch, but I must give my approval to the beard that Law is sporting as Dumbledore.

But it’s not all fun and games on set, as Redmayne revealed to EW that he’d incurred a rather strange injury that the cast calls “Wand Shoulder Strain”:

“It’s from doing some quite hardcore wand action…but I’m not getting any better for it.”

Wand waving aside, director David Yates (who previously directed the last four Harry Potter films) promises that changes are coming to the franchise:

“The first film had a level of whimsy; the characters felt like children in grown-up bodies…In this movie, it gets grittier and more nuanced and detailed. It’s quite a romantic film, it’s a thriller, it’s quite an interesting combination of genres you rarely see together. I think it will surprise people.”

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald (whew!) is currently slated for release on November 16, 2018.
