Why this picture of child's birthday party spread caused outrage
A well-meaning mum has been criticised for the food she provided at her daughter’s birthday with some even commenting that the spread could result in a heart attack.
The mother-of-two from New Zealand’s North Island shared the spread of KFC, pizzas, burgers and soft drink in a group designed to promote healthy eating, and (somewhat predictably) was shot down by other users.
“My girl’s seventh birthday party. Kentucky fried chicken, cheeseburgers, Thai food, pizza,” she captioned the post, written in Maori.

Despite her celebratory mood, the mum acknowledged the lacklustre nutritional value adding that the spread is ‘not a healthy diet’.
And critics were still quick to take aim, with one referring to the party as a ‘diabetes birthday’.
“New Zealand has a massive obesity problem and this is not helping. No seven-year-old needs food like this,” wrote one user.
“Happy birthday, we got you a heart attack,” said another.

But fellow fast food enthusiasts backed the mum’s decadent choice of birthday feast – and expressed envy they didn’t receive an invite.
“I’ve never seen anything so beautiful in my life,” one comment jokingly read.
“Might have to do this for my birthday. All that food looks good.”
