In Photos, take a tour of the new Amazon fulfilment centre in Singapore

The 100,000 sq. foot warehouse is located in Jurong East and is the largest Amazon fulfilment centre in the world

Today in Singapore, we saw the launch of Amazon’s Prime Now service, the first in Southeast Asia. It was the country’s first entry into the region and the start of an interesting future for e-commerce here.

The key advertisement for Amazon Prime Now is it offers 2-hour delivery service, which is incredibly fast. That being said, on day one, Amazon appears to be so slammed that delivery is not an option.

However, once the excitement simmers down, we fully expect Amazon to make good on their delivery promise.

So, how do they deliver these goods? Today, e27 took a tour of the company fulfilment centre. Let’s have a look!

Welcome to the Amazon Prime Now warehouse

As one would expect, the warehouse is made up of aisles and aisles of goods for purchase. At the moment, Amazon Prime Now is focussed on day-to-day goods like groceries and home products. That explains the large quantities of laundry detergent in the photo.

This is what a typical pigeon hole looks like. It can be full of seemingly random pairings, but their is a method to the madness, which helps the pickers quickly find the product.

The pickers are human employees, and jobs creation in Singapore was a major theme of the launch event.

If e27 were going to bet on the most popular product for Singaporeans, we would give Milo strong 5/3 odds.

Free two hour delivery? Steady Pom Pipi.

After the picking, we get to the bagging. This room is full of people scanning items, putting things in bags, running around with shopping carts and heading out of the room (presumably to the delivery vehicles).

This was the most interesting part of the warehouse, operating more like a beehive than a company. It was impossible to tell what the employees were doing, but they certainly had purpose with their actions.

This guy took a quick break before a manager (guessing due to the collared shirt) approached him, had a quick chat, and they both grabbed a cart and went their way.

If Milo isn’t the most popular purchase on Amazon, then this certainly will be. Beer! Delivered straight to your party.

So there you have it, a quick tour of the Amazon Prime Now fulfilment center in Singapore.
