We’ve never heard of a fashion and art festival being held at a supermarket in Singapore until now.
The inaugural OUTSIDER fashion art festival took place at Big Box Hypermart from 20 to 22 October and saw shelves – previously stocked with groceries, cleaning items and condiments – hung with pieces from various fashion collections instead.
The participating fashion labels were LANNERET (China), MAKIN JAN MA (Hong Kong), Man Chien (Malaysia), METHODOLOGY (Hong Kong), Q DESIGN AND PLAY (Thailand), Absurd by Absurd Laboratory (Hong Kong), Alias (China), BATICE (Taiwan), MS YEEYEE (China), Faculty (Singapore), VOLTAIRE.VISIONS (Singapore), 1=X (China) and Mimblanche (China).
Works by fashion graduates from the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) were also displayed at the event.
The event also featured art installations by 10 local artists. According to a press release on Monday (30 October), the event attracted 1,500 people across three days. OUTSIDER was organised by local creative agency Untitled Collective, helmed by Singaporean Zachary Goh.
