Throngs of Japanese anime and game lovers flocked to the Singapore Expo for this year’s C3 CharaExpo on Saturday (9 July).

Many who were decked in colourful and elaborate costumes had been eagerly awaiting the event to buy some of their favourite anime merchandise and games.

Kenji Shinoda, Japan’s Ambassador to Singapore, commenced the event with a speech highlighting the 50 years of diplomatic relations between Singapore and Japan.

“I am delighted to be part of this CharaExpo in this special time for both of our nations – the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Singapore and Japan, better known as SJ50. Last year, we joyfully celebrated SG50 but this year, we celebrate SJ50,” said the ambassador.

Joining Shinoda was Takaaki Kidani, president of Japanese producer of collectable card games and trading cards, Bushiroad. In addition, wrestling fans and anime fans were ecstatic to greet Japanese professional wrestling champion Kazuchika Okada and Japanese singer/voice actress Suzuko Mimori.

The C3 Chara Expo 2016 will be till Sunday (10 July 2016) at Hall 7 of the Singapore Expo. Visit the event’s website for more details.
