She didn’t win last year, but Mohana Prabha competed again and won Miss Universe Singapore 2019

SINGAPORE – Ten finalists of the Miss Universe Singapore 2019 competed neck-and-neck at Zouk on Thursday night (17 October), with beauty pageant regular and model Mohana Prabha emerging as the winner.

The short-haired Indian beauty is not unfamiliar with beauty pageants and strutting catwalks. She is a Miss Universe Singapore 2018 Top 5 finalist and entered the competition again this year. She is also a finalist of The New Paper New Face in 2017 and is currently signed on to modelling agency Upfront Models.

Though she did not win last year, Prabha never gave up and instead gave the beauty pageant another shot. With more experience under her belt, she emerged more confident and poised than before, leading her to score the title.

She dazzled us in the swimsuit segment, wearing a shimmery and flowy white piece with an orange bathing suit underneath. The look was topped off with glamorous earrings. Later on in the evening wear segment, she wore a one-shouldered red gown that accentuated her tall frame. She is also the tallest girl in the competition.

When asked what she would like to advocate if she clinches the title, she said that she would like to champion diversity and reduce carbon footprints. Through her Instagram account, she calls for more attention to global warming.

This year saw a change in management, with former 2011 Miss Universe Singapore titleholder, Valerie Lim, being appointed as the National Director. Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach was one of the guest judges, which definitely raised the bars.

It was a tough call as hot favourites Cheryl Yao and Bernadette Wu-Ong were leading the crowd with loud cheers and screams.

Yao walked away with the second runner-up title while Miss Charm 2019 and Miss Aspirational 2019 titles went to Wu-Ong. Medical graduate and part-time model Laranya Kumar was the first runner-up of the competition.

Together with Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach, Miss Universe Singapore 2018 winner Zahra Khanum presented and passed on her crown to Prabha.

Prabha will represent Singapore on the global stage at the Miss Universe 2019 competition later this year.
