PewDiePie, Maker Studios Launch YouTube-Parody Mobile Game, Ink Development Deal With ‘Goat Simulator’ Creator

PewDiePie, the hugely popular YouTube comedy vlogger who specializes in video games, has launched his next mobile game — “PewDiePie’s Tuber Simulator” — through his Revelmode joint venture with Maker Studios.

In addition, the Revelmode partners announced they have signed a multi-title development deal with the studio formed by “Goat Simulator” creator Armin Ibrisagic.

In the free “PewDiePie’s Tuber Simulator” game, released Thursday, users create an aspiring YouTuber and try to score video views and subscribers to purchase items like furniture, clothes and pets, ultimately aiming to become a force to rival PewDiePie (aka Felix Kjellberg).

The game, published by Outerminds, is available for iOS and Android devices and offers in-app purchases. It features voiceovers from PewDiepie, and a “Puggle” minigame. Apple has rated the game for ages 9 and older, citing infrequent/mild profanity or crude humor, horror and suggestive themes, and cartoon or fantasty violence.

The new game comes after PewDiePie last year released “Legend of the Brofist,” also published by Montreal-based Outerminds, which held the No. 1 spot on Apple’s App Store chart for more than three weeks.

Revelmode’s deal with game designer Ibrisagic runs through the newly formed DoubleMoose studio, under the pact DoubleMoose will develop multiple titles for PC, iOS and Android platforms with creative input from Kjellberg. Ibrisagic’s third-person perspective “Goat Simulator” game from Coffee Stain Studios, in which the user controls a goat in a variety of settings, has sold several million copies worldwide.

“Working with Armin is a match made in heaven,” Kjellberg said in a statement. “His vision and sense of humor fits Revelmode perfectly. We’re proud and excited to have him on board and can’t wait to share what we’ll create together!”

Added Ibrisagic, “Comedy is huge in entertainment but it still feels in its infancy in the games industry — Felix and I would like to work on changing that.”

Maker and Kjellberg launched Revelmode in January 2016, geared around producing original short-form content and games, and supporting charity causes. The Revelmode network of creators now includes PewDiePie, CinnamonToastKen, Cryaotic, CutiePieMarzia, Dodger, EmmaBlackery, JackSepticEye, Jelly, PJ Liguori (aka KickthePJ), Kwebbelkop, and Markiplier.

Revelmode recently participated in a charity drive, Revel4Good, with a series of live streams that drove over 100,000 Humble Bundle purchases with a portion of the proceeds donated to Crisis Text Line, which provides free, 24-7 support for people with mental-health crises via text.
