People Have *Very* Mixed Feelings About Luke Bryan's ACM Entertainer of the Year Win
Country superstar Luke Bryan took home the top prize at the 2021 ACM Awards, held on Sunday, April 18th.
The show's hosts presented Luke with the award virtually, and the Idol judge gratefully accepted it from afar.
Although many fans' reactions were positive, others expressed their frustration over Luke's win and the entire category of nominees on social media.
Luke Bryan won the biggest award of the night on Sunday, April 18, during the 2021 ACM Awards. His "Entertainer of the Year" win was the grand finale of the Nashville awards extravaganza, and marked his third-ever trophy in that category (he also won in 2014 and 2015).
Luke, who is currently a judge on American Idol, was not able to accept the award in person. Instead, he accepted it via video chat in front of ACM hosts Keith Urban and Mickey Guyton. In his speech said he was "amazingly surprised" by the win, gave a heartfelt nod to his touring crew, and later that night returned to judge Idol for the first time since announcing he tested positive for COVID on April 12.
When the ACMs announced Luke's win on their Instagram account, fans immediately flocked to the comments section.
Some fans offered congratulatory messages or expressed relief that Luke "finally" won again:
"So beyond happy for Luke!! He most definitely deserves it!"
"About time luke gets it back in the winner circle!!"
"Yay Luke!!!! Hope you are feeling good!! Missed you tonight!"
Other fans, however, claimed that there must have been a "mistake" in the voting:
"I love them both but they got the wrong Luke for this year"
"Did they mix up the Luke’s by chance?"
"I wanna know who “voted” for these. Vast majority are a miss imo"
Fans also took to Twitter to express their thoughts, with some much more positive than others. Many were very frustrated with the entire category of nominees, which did not feature any female artists this year. "I love Luke Bryan but why did he win Entertainer of the Year? Lol. Women in country music have been dominating this entire quarantine year and now," one user wrote. "I dont get how anyone could listen to @carrieunderwood or @mirandalambert tonight and not think they should have entertainer of the year nom. No women nominated ACMs??! Really..., " said another.
Regardless of who you think should have won, one thing we can all agree on: last night's show featured a ton of amazing performances.
