A mum-of-two has gone viral after accidentally feeding her children penis-pasta for their lunch.

Rebecca Brett, mum to three-year-old Ava and seven-month-old, Marie took to Facebook to share an open post about the mistake she’d made when it came to preparing her kids’ lunch.

“Okay so the Mum of the Year award most definitely does not go to me today,” she wrote.

She went on to explain that her eldest daughter had begged her for some “smiley face” pasta she’d spotted.

“So I bought it, cooked it for the girls for lunch today.”

Rebecca said that she thought it looked a bit odd but it was only when she had another check of the bag that she realised it was penis pasta.

“Thought it looked a bit odd, re-looked at the bag and IT’S ONLY BLOODY PENIS PASTA,” she wrote.

“How could I not even realise even while cooking it?! So my 3 year old and 7 month old are currently sat eating a bowl of dicks for their lunch. Life.”

The hilarious revelation has clearly touched a nerve with other parents as since sharing images of her children tucking into the pasta it has wracked up over 368K reactions, been shared over 187K times and received 184K comments.

“Lol that’s brilliant!” one user wrote.

“Hilarious,” another user commented. “That’s one to tell them when they are older. They’ll get a right laugh out of it.”

Other parents shared tales of similar parenting faux-pas.

“That’s hilarious, as long as they’re eating it, what’s t matter what shape they are?? They’re too young to know what the is anyways…heck my daughter opened my birthday card that had a bunch of penis confetti in it and it fell onto the floor. She asked me how come my birthday card had dog bone confetti in it, lol”

While most people saw the funny side, Rebecca was later forced to defend herself from the parenting police after some commented about the lack of variation on her children’s lunch plates.

“Edit: Just a note, I did not expect this to go viral. My children are fussy eaters and don’t like things touching,” she added into her original post.

“They obviously have more than just pasta and a very balanced diet thank you very much to all the parent preachers out there who feel like they need to tell me how to parent my own children.”

And other parents were quick to step in and offer support to the mum.

“Take no notice of the preachers. They are everywhere,” one user offered.

“Sod them you feed your kids what they will eat it’s not like it’s a bowl of m&ms! Ovbs penis pasta is a hit!”

Rebecca isn’t the only mum who took to social media after a parenting mishap.

Last year Louise Isaac also took the Internet by storm after trying to find the innocent victim of her two-year-old daughter’s ‘rolling poo.’

And earlier this year another mum was left reeling after her son returned home from school, only to discover he’d been wearing an X-rated t-shirt all day.

Shelly McCullar from Texas sent her sincerest apologies to the teachers at her son Anthony’s school via a Facebook post after finding out he’d been wearing the rude t-shirt.

In the post, the mother included a photo of her son wearing the now-infamous tee: a parody McDonald’s logo (which instead of the Golden Arches depicted a woman’s open legs) with the words “I’m lovin’ it”.

Gotta love a good #parentfail
