SINGAPORE – Olivia Culpo, a name that doesn’t just resonate with Miss Universe (she won the crown in 2012), is also tied to ‘actress’, ‘model’, ‘designer’, and ‘influencer’. The association with these titles come naturally for the 26-year-old, who shot to stardom after winning the pageant, but had viewed the contest as a platform for her to grow and learn from. After winning the beauty pageant, Culpo did not return to college and went on to pursue various interests, like acting (she was in films like American Satan, The Other Woman as well as Reprisal alongside Bruce Willis) as well as modelling (for brands like Cartier and L’Oreal, and now, jewellery brand APM Monaco). She also topped Maxim’s Top 100 list this year, making her the magazine’s choice for sexiest woman in the world.

To gauge what Culpo has been up to recently, one can simply peek into the multi-faceted personality’s Instagram page to watch her fly around the world, attending glamorous beauty and fashion events, while launching her own clothing line and being a restaurateur (she opened a family-restaurant in her hometown in Rhode Island). Phew, does she even have time to stop and breathe?

Needing to find out what this famous intrepid traveller does to carve out extra time for all her endeavours, while looking fab in the process, Yahoo Lifestyle Singapore peeks into Culpo’s travel diary and finds out what jewellery she wears, her thought processes surrounding her Instagram page and her next travel plans.

Being an influencer is not an easy job, say local top YouTubers

Hi Olivia! What's your must-wear when it comes to jewellery?

Well I really think it depends on the look I am wearing, but I love statement earrings or some fun rings.

Do you have a favourite gemstone? What is your gemstone sign?

Ahhh, diamonds probably! I mean who doesn’t love diamonds? They are beautiful and go with everything. My gemstone is an emerald. I would say that is my second favourite stone.

Are you a fan of jewellery layering? What would you wear on a night out with girlfriends?

Of course! Layering necklaces is such a great way to jazz up a t-shirt and jeans. If I am going out with girlfriends I like to wear something that is stylish but somewhat comfortable. I would say my go to is a sweatshirt dress with thigh high boots.

Do you have a secret jetlag cure since you travel so much?

I wish! I am jet lagged right now as I write this. I try to double my water intake when I fly. It does help a lot. And I try to get on the time schedule as soon as I land in any place, but I must admit that doesn’t always happen.

How do you pack for a long-haul trip?

I get anxiety packing sometimes! But overall I will try to pack mix and match pieces so I don’t have to bring everything in my closet. Although at Paris Fashion Week this year I am embarrassed to admit that I brought five suitcases!

Do you ever do masking on flights?

Oh yes! One of my favourites is my friend Marianna Hewitt’s brand Summer Friday’s, but there are so many good masks on the market and I like to play with different ones all the time.

What's inside your beauty bag right now?

Definitely five to six lip pencils in different shades of rose and plum. I also have a clean mascara wand (for eyebrows) and some tinted chapstick.

What's your thought process like when it comes to managing your Instagram page?

I like to post what I am doing and what I am wearing, so I try to make it in the moment. I also like to connect with my followers through my posts. I love to get their feedback on everything from outfits to make-up to everyday interests. It is not an exact science, but I use Instagram to be creative and have a conversation with people that I haven’t gotten a chance to meet in person yet.

What would be a passion project for you?

I honestly feel like my job is a passion project and I am so lucky for that. I would say I am very passionate about continuing to design everything from clothing to accessories. I love the idea of making quality and trendy prices for reasonable prices. I want all the people who follow me to have access to play with fashion trends.

Will we be seeing you in Asia anytime soon?

Oh I hope so! I was in Tokyo and Kyoto earlier this year and it was such an amazing experience. Last year I went to Singapore and it was so beautiful and so clean! I am dying to visit more parts of China because I have only been to Shanghai. Oh and Thailand please! The beaches there are unreal.
