PBS To Premiere Docus ‘Divided States’ & ‘The Great War’ In 2017 – TCA
PBS will air a four-hour, two-night Frontline documentary miniseries Divided States of America, on January 17 and 18 at 9 PM.
Premiering just days before the inauguration of the 45th American president, the miniseries looks back at the events during the Obama presidency that have revealed deep divisions in our country, and examines the America the next president will inherit. The docu will offer an in-depth view of the partisanship that gridlocked Washington and charged the 2016 presidential campaign, the rise of populist anger on both sides of the aisle and the racial tensions that have erupted throughout the country, according to PBS.
Led by veteran Frontline filmmaker Michael Kirk and his team, the miniseries digs into the causes of America’s intense polarization and questions how the next president and Congress can govern in an era of complex challenges.
PBS and American Experience also announced today at TCA The Great War, a six-hour, three-night event that will premiere in April. It will air in conjunction with the 100th anniversary of America’s entry into World War I on April 6, 1917.
Drawing on the latest scholarship, including unpublished diaries, memoirs and letters, The Great War tells the story of World War I through the voices of nurses, journalists, aviators and the American troops who came to be known as “doughboys.” The series explores the experiences of African-American and Latino soldiers, suffragists, Native-American “code talkers” and others.
The Great War is executive produced by Mark Samels and directed by award-winning filmmakers Stephen Ives, Amanda Pollak and Rob Rapley.
