"Pauwi Na" wins top honour at Shanghai Festival

The road movie wins the Golden Goblet at the Shanghai International Film Festival

29 Jun - It was revealed that Filipino movie, "Pauwi Na" has recently won the top prize at the 20th Shanghai International Film Festival (SIFF).

According to Rappler, the movie, starring Bembol Roco and Cherry Pie Picache, received the Golden Goblet Award - the highest prize awarded at SIFF, which was honoured to them at the awarding ceremony held on the 25 of June.

Head jury Christian Mungu stated that the movie won the votes for, among other things, its "humanism and universality, simplicity of the style and realisation".

Speaking to the media after the awards, Villaluna said that they are proud to be able to tell the story of struggle and hope, proud to be acknowledged, and are proud to be Filipinos.

The road movie, which is translated as "Pedicab" and based on the true story of a family who pedals their way home to Leyte from Manila, revolves around of a pedicab driver and his peculiar family, which include his nagging wife, his thief son, a blind pregnant woman, and a dog named Kikay.
