Participant Media Wins Auction For Rupert Wyatt’s ‘Captive State’
EXCLUSIVE: In competitive bidding, Participant Media has acquired worldwide rights to Captive State, a package for a big-scale film that Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes helmer Rupert Wyatt will direct from a script he wrote with Erica Beeney. The project will be produced by David Crockett and Wyatt. Jeff Skoll and Jonathan King of Participant Media will executive produce. The picture will be released through Participant’s output deal with Amblin Partners, with Focus Features releasing domestically and eOne releasing in the UK, Australia, New Zealand, Spain and the Benelux countries.
Wyatt last helmed The Gambler remake, and will make this his next film. Production is slated to begin early next year. It adds another big project for Participant, which has the Derek Cianfrance-directed The Light Between Oceans with Michael Fassbender, Alicia Vikander and Rachel Weisz opening through DreamWorks and Disney. Last year’s Spotlight premiere will be a hard act to follow, but Participant heads into the Toronto film festival next week with four films: the Rachel Weisz-starrer Denial, J.A. Bayona’s A Monster Calls, Pablo Larrain’s Neruda and the Peter Berg-directed Deepwater Horizon. Participant confirmed it landed the Wyatt project.

UTA and Gang Tyre attorney Bianca Levin brokered the deal with Participant’s Gabe Brakin.
