Who said nurseries have to be babyish? Parachute founder Ariel Kaye designed a nursery for her new baby boy Van that's an ocean-inspired oasis the entire family can enjoy. A palette of blue tones mixed with natural woods and soft textures leaves the tranquil space stocked with inspo.

“I like to add a bit of whimsy to my children’s rooms and decided to continue the coastal aesthetic of my home into Van's nursery,” Kaye tells House Beautiful. “My son was born in December, so I’ve been spending a lot of time in the nursery and have been reminded of how important it is to create a space that is comfortable and relaxing for both Mom and baby.”

Apart from seamlessly fitting into Kaye’s home design, the nursery is a nod to the coastal-inspired Parachute and Crate & Barrel collaboration the brands released today. It features Parachute’s best-selling bedding and bath essentials in a new palette of neutrals, grays, and blues that are “all inspired by misty Venice Beach mornings."

Van's nursery features several pieces from Crate & Kids that bring texture and warmth to the space—including the crib, bookcase, table lamp, and seating. Kaye praises the Snoozer Cream Glider for the comfort and support it provides. “I really love the unique shape and texture,” she adds. “It gives the nursery a sophisticated look and is such an elevated piece that it will transition out of the nursery and into a kid’s room.”

As far as the oceanic elements go, the Under the Sea Mobile, Whale Storage Basket, and Be on the Sea Floor Mat from Crate & Kids enhance the theme. Meanwhile, Life Aquatic wallpaper from Chasing Paper offers a playful touch. “It features all the marine animals, which my 2-year-old daughter Lou completely adores,” Kaye says. “She now comes into the room to show her baby brother the starfish and beluga whales.”

For the bedding, Kaye uses Parachute’s crib sheets. The soft rug from Parachute is free of toxic chemicals—perfect for tummy time! Other accents include Crate & Kids swaddles, changing cover, and stuffed animals.
