SINGAPORE – Osim Singapore drops two new handheld massagers on the 7th of November in time for festive gifting and in particular, their u Dolly 2 raises eyebrows over its uncanny resemblance to the Hitachi Magic Wand.
Possibly becoming Osim Singapore’s most commented post on its Facebook page with over 1,500 comments, the Osim u Dolly 2’s intense vibration in its “Power Vibration Massage” mode made minds wandered, especially with its design.
Netizens quickly spotted the alikeness between u Dolly 2 and the Hitachi Magic Wand, which was first manufactured in 1968, and was initially designed for relieving tension and relaxing sore muscles.
The massager was, however, most known for being a sex toy when sex educator Betty Dodson popularised its use as a vibrator for ladies during the sex-positive movement in the late 1960s. It was discovered to function effectively as a clitoral vibrator and is one of the most recognisable sex toy in the world.
Despite Osim’s new handheld massager’s resemblance to the infamous wand massager, the brand had not associated it with sexual wellness. Branding it as a versatility meets convenience massager, the u Dolly 2 comes with an interchangeable “spiky massager node for a more stimulating and intense massage”.
Comments on Osim’s Facebook post are flooded with questions if the handheld massager is waterproof; how the design is popular in the adult video industry; and if the targeted parts that Osim recommended are correct.
Some also pointed out if the announcement was made on purpose or not – the questionable handheld massager is on sale just before Single’s Day – making it the perfect gift for oneself.
