SINGAPORE — The 92nd Academy Awards just ended at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles on 10 February, and we’ve been here providing you live updates of the winners all the way. Read on for the highlights all through the evening and the complete list of winners!
Class conflict genre defier, Parasite, by South Korean director Bong Joon Ho, was the big winner of the night. The movie made history by being the first non-English language film to win the Academy Awards’ top prize, Best Picture. It also won Best International Film and Best Director for Bong, as well as Best Original Screenplay. Parasite was also nominated for Film Editing and Production Design.
Joaquin Phoenix won Best Leading Actor for Joker, while Renee Zellweger took home Best Leading Actress for Judy.
Laura Dern and Brad Pitt won the supporting acting prizes for Marriage Story and Once Upon A Time In Hollywood respectively. It was Pitt’s first acting award at the Oscars.

In a nod to the Academy’s ongoing efforts at increasing diversity, pansexual singer Janelle Monáe and gay actor Billy Porter performed an opening medley that paid homage to Mr. Rogers, Elton John, Midsommar, and more. Monáe called out the awards’ lack of female representation (there were no female nominees in the directing category), saying, “Tonight we celebrate all the amazing talent in this room. We celebrate all the women who directed phenomenal films. I’m so happy to be here as a black queer artist telling stories.”
Steve Martin and Chris Rock open the 2020 Academy Awards with a monologue targeting the lack of diverse nominees.
The first award of the night’s been given out; Best Supporting Actor goes to Brad Pitt for his role in Once Upon A Time In Hollywood! This is Pitt’s first Oscar award for acting. Pitt references Donald Trump's impeachment trial during his acceptance speech.
Mindy Kaling announces that Toy Story 4 wins Best Animated Feature Film.
Hair Love wins Best Animated Short Film.
Idina Menzel performs one of the most karaoke’ed songs last year – Into The Unknown from the Frozen 2 soundtrack – with the “Elsa” singers from Japan, Germany, Latin America, Poland, Russia, Spain, Norway and Denmark. The song is one of the nominees for Best Original Song.
Parasite wins Best Original Screenplay. Director Bong Joon Ho says on receiving the award, “Writing a script is such a lonely process. We never write just for our own country. Thank you for my first Oscar!”
Director-screenwriter Taika Waititi wins Best Adapted Screenplay for Jojo Rabbit. He says, “This is for all the indigenous kids in the world who want to be original storytellers!” (Waititi is of Maori heritage.)
Marshall Curry wins for Best Live Action Short Film for The Neighbors’ Window.
Maya Rudolph and Kristen Wiig have a hilarious bit where they pretend to audition for all the directors in the Dolby Theatre while announcing the next couple of awards.
Nancy Haigh wins Best Production Design for Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.
Jacqueline Durran wins Best Costume Design for Little Women.
Mark Ruffalo announces the winner of Best Documentary Feature, American Factory.
Best Documentary Short goes to Learning to Skateboard in a Warzone (If You’re a Girl).
Mahershala Ali announces Best Supporting Actress, Laura Dern for Marriage Story.
Eminem makes a surprise appearance and performs his Oscar-winning song, Lose Yourself.
Best Sound Editing goes to Donald Sylvester for Ford v Ferrari.
Best Sound Mixing goes to Mark Taylor and Stuart Wilson for 1917.
Best Cinematography goes to Roger Deakins for 1917.
Best Film Editing goes to Michael McCusker and Andrew Buckland for Ford v Ferrari.
Cynthia Erivo, who was nominated for Best Leading Actress, performs a rousing rendition of the track Stand Up from her film, slave drama Harriet.
James Corden and Rebel Wilson, who announced the Best Visual Effects winner, appear in cat costumes and poke fun at their roles in Cats, which was widely criticised for poor visual effects.
1917 wins Best Visual Effects for Guillaume Rocheron, Greg Butler and Dominic Tuohy.
Best Make-up and Hairstyling goes to Kazu Hiro, Anne Morgan and Vivian Baker for Bombshell.
Parasite by Bong Joon Ho becomes the first South Korean film to win Best International Feature Film! The award goes to producers Kwak Sin Ae and Bong Joon Ho.
Gal Gadot, Sigourney Weaver and Brie Larson join forces to introduce the first female Oscars orchestra conductor, Eimear Noone. She leads a medley performance of the nominees for Best Original Score.
Best Original Score goes to Hildur Guðnadóttir for Joker.
Diane Keaton and Keanu Reeves reminisce about Something's Gotta Give while announcing Best Original Song.
Elton John and Bernie Taupin win Best Original Song for I’m Gonna Love Me Again from Rocketman.
