Oscars 2020 nominations announced: 'Joker' leads the way

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences today announced the films and filmmakers in consideration for the 92nd Academy Awards – the Oscars – which will be held on 9 February.

Actor and producer John Cho and actor/writer/producer Issa Rae hosted a live two-part presentation that unveiled the nominations in all 24 categories for the first time.

Joker leads the way with 11 nominations in total including Best Picture, Best Actor and Best Director, followed by The Irishman, 1917 and Once Upon A Time... In Hollywood with ten apiece. Jojo Rabbit, Little Women, Marriage Story and Parasite all have six nominations.

Little Women star Florence Pugh, 1917 director Sir Sam Mendes and The Two Popes' Sir Anthony Hopkins are among the British Oscar nominees.

Cynthia Erivo also bagged a nod for her star turn in biopic Harriet while Sir Elton John and Bernie Taupin have been nominated for the best original song for their work on Rocketman. Pugh's Little Women co-star Saoirse Ronan received her fourth Oscar nomination with a best actress nod.

The 92nd Oscars will be held on Sunday, 9 February, 2020, at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, and will be televised live. Read the full list of nominations below.
