Oscars 2018: Meryl Streep fans in hysterics as she channels Shrek fairy godmother
Meryl Streep may have missed out on an award – but she became an Oscar’s meme after viewers compared her to a character from Shrek.
Streep, 68, sent Twitter wild over her uncanny likeness to the Fairy Godmother as she hit the red carpet for the 90th Academy Awards.
Streep – who was nominated for Best Actress – wore a plunging red dress which she teamed with a pair of glasses in an unintentional nod to the animated character.
Viewers were left in hysterics at the likeness, with one tweeting: “Meryl Streep really out there looking like the Fairy Godmother from Shrek 2 lol.”
Another wrote: “S/O to Meryl Streep who looks like the Fairy Godmother from Shrek #Oscars #SheDontNeedAHeroTho #ShesHerOwn.”
Others called for a “live action” remake of Shrek 2 so they can see Streep take on the role, which was originally voiced by Jennifer Saunders.
