Orlando Bloom Reveals He Was Celibate for Six Months Before Dating Katy Perry
Orlando Bloom is opening up about his sex life (or lack there of) just before meeting his soon-to-be wife, Katy Perry.
In a new, wide-ranging interview with The Sunday Times, the actor got deeply personal and admitted that he took a voluntary vow of celibacy back in 2016. "I wasn't happy," Bloom — who split from ex-wife Miranda Kerr three years prior — told the outlet. Searching for clarity, he took the recommendation from his friend, surfer Laird Hamilton. "Laird said, 'If you want to be serious about a relationship, go celibate for a few months and figure it out," he explained.

By taking sex off the table, Bloom realized that he was able to develop true friendships with women. "It takes away the idea of going to a party and thinking, 'Who am I going to meet?' I was suddenly, like, 'Oh, I can have a relationship with a woman that is just friends,'" he said, adding that the experiment lasted twice as long as he planned: “I was going to do three months, but I was really enjoying the way I was relating to women, and to the feminine within myself. I know that sounds crazy."

However, six months into abstaining from sex, Bloom met Perry, and the rest is history. The couple dated on-and-off for four years before getting engaged on Valentine's Day last year, and just a few weeks ago, the pair announced they're expecting their first child together.
"This kind of joy isn't something you can put into words — or really wrap your head around," Bloom said of the pregnancy. "Obviously, we've known for a long time before going public. As you can imagine, it's such an incredibly precious, private, yet commonplace moment to be sharing with the world. The whole family is over the moon."
Perry is due to give birth this summer.
