At this time of the year in the West, make-up usually turns more sophisticated and polished in preparation for the winter months. Though the polish is still there, the 2012 fall runway shows showed models made up in fun and bright colors or dramatic, head-turning hues.
Neon eyeliner and multicolored lipstick. Christian Dior suggests a more futuristic interpretation of classic winged eyeliner. Instead of just plain black, play around with bright tones such as neon green, electric purple and blue to create your classic cat eye look. Also, instead of just plain red lipstick, go multi-hued with oranges or purples to complete the look.
Orange lids. Never thought orange lids could be hot? Think again. Dries Van Noten paired a variety of prints with an opaque shade of mandarin. To make this look work, keep the rest of your face low-key, and make sure your hair stays in the background too. Your lids are the focus here. Still not convinced? Armani Prive sported orange lids on the runway too.
Cherry red and eggplant purple. Rochas had a more traditional fall palette with mustard yellows, aubergines and indigos for the lids paired with a super dark cherry red lip color. This palette would look great with dark haired girls who want to spice up their look.
Gold eyeshadow. Rodarte kept it low key with tousled, texturized locks and golden hues on the eye lids. If you want to go for a more simple but ethereal look, this may be the one for you. Apply shades of gold, wheat and peach to your eye lids and accentuate further with mascara. Apply a bit of blush and just some tinted gloss on your lips.
Focus on one feature at a time. Two distinct looks came up at Narciso Rodriguez but both focus on just one facial feature and left the rest of the face almost bare. If you want to show off your lips, pick your perfect bright red, orange, pink or mauve lipstick and keep the rest of your makeup minimal for maximum effect. If you prefer to accentuate your eyes, pick a bright colored shadow and lightly “scribble” on your lids using a cream eye liner and brush. Instant eye lid art!
