Oprah Winfrey graces the August cover of British Vogue, 20 years since posing for the famous fashion bible for the first time.

The 64-year-old looks spectacular on the cover – shot by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott – wearing a custom-made taffeta gown by Stella McCartney and white-and-yellow-diamond and emerald earrings by Buccellati.

The epic choice of cover star follows the mission of British Vogue‘s editor-in-chief, Edward Enninful, to tackle representation of a diverse range of ethnicities, ages and sizes within the magazine upon taking up his post in August 2017.

Inside the landmark issue, the mogul talks frankly about politics, race, her heartbreak and her appearance at the royal wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle which was watched by the world.

Quashing rumours about her presidential bid, Oprah says: “In that political structure – all the non-truths, the bullshit, the crap, the nastiness, the backhanded backroom stuff that goes on – I feel like I could not exist,

“I would not be able to do it. It’s not a clean business. It would kill me.”

In another part of the interview, Oprah speaks up about the #Metoo and Time’s Up movement.”People talk about ‘these are such dark times’, but what if we shift the paradigm? Because I see it differently,” Winfrey says.

“I see, ‘Isn’t this remarkable that we’re waking up?’ For years, women have endured craziness. This is what’s happening to people. They’re allowing themselves to not just become corroded, but to become hysterical. You’ve got to lean to the happiness.”

In May, Oprah was one of the lucky guests at the nuptials of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

Speaking about the day, she said: “It left me feeling that anything is possible through the power of love. Reverend Curry was right!”

Oprah also revealed she almost made the ultimate wedding faux pas by nearly wearing cream to the wedding.

Revealing she was set to wear the colour just days before the wedding, she realised it “looked white, not cream. I Googled, ‘Can you wear white to a wedding? Answer: ‘No, don’t risk it.”

Thankfully, the team at Stella McCartney were able to change the colour in the nick of time in what turned out to be one of the best wedding guest looks of the day.

Speaking about the experience of shooting with British Vogue and editor-in-chief Edward Enninful, Oprah said: “This was an incredibly regal experience. Thank you @edward_enninful and @britishvogue for making me Empress for a day. And @mertalas, @macpiggott…a dream I didn’t even know I had to be photographed by you two.”

Winfrey first posed for Vogue in 1998, covering the October issue of the US edition.
