Old Chang Kee opens flagship coffee house at location of first stall 62 years ago
Old Chang Kee has opened its flagship coffee house at the original location of its very first stall in Mackenzie Road, located opposite Rex Cinema.
Patrons will be able to indulge in both signature and new dishes with offerings exclusive to the outlet such as the Flower Bread with curry chicken or stew – priced from $11.90 – and the Beef Stew Rice served in an old-school mess tin – priced at $9.50.
The snack chain’s first stall was set up 62 years ago by a Hainanese hawker in 1956; in 1986, the business was bought over and expanded by current executive chairman Han Keen Juan.
The new outlet has a heritage-themed setting with vintage furnishings such as floral plastic table covers, rustic wooden seats and old-fashioned tiles.
The eatery will feature the classic Old Chang Kee counter where patrons can savour food items from affiliated brands such as the pillow-soft buns from Bun Times and deep-fried finger food from Curry Times.
The outlet operates daily from 11am to 9pm from Mondays to Thursdays, 10am to 10pm on Fridays and Saturdays and 10am to 9pm on Sundays. It will stop receiving orders half an hour before closing time.
Old Chang Kee now has 90 outlets across Singapore, as well as outlets in Malaysia, Indonesia and Australia.
